PURPOSE:To heighten energy efficiency of a battery by connecting a zinc-halogen secondary battery and an auxiliary battery in parallel through a changing-over switch while using a forced discharged circuit, in which resistance is connected between one end of the change-over switch to the node of the secondary battery and the auxiliary battery. CONSTITUTION:A change-over switch 5 is connected with the side of a contact (b) for discharging a secondary battert 1 through resistance 2. When the voltage of the secondary battery 1 is lowered down to not exceeding 1.0V per cell in case of a zinc-bromine battery and not exceeding 1.2V in case of a zinc-chlorine battery, the switch 5 is connected with the side of the contact (a) for connecting an auxiliary battery 4 to the positive pole of the secondary battery 1. When thereby the battery voltage of the secondary battery 1 is held not exceeding 1.0V per cell in case of the zinc-bromine battery of the secondary battery while not exceeding 1.2V in case of the zinc-chlorine battery, a charge current flows from the auxiliary electrode 4 to the secondary battery 1, while the bromine and chlorine in the catholyte of the secondary battery 1 are reduced for preventing self-discharge in the following charge and discharge cycles. When the charge current due to the auxiliary battery 4 becomes zero, the switch 5 is opened for performing normal charge. |
