The invention relates to a device for determining the position of the centre of gravity of a specimen, in which the latter is placed on a mounting plate having position-defined bearing feet attached to the underside. The bearing plate is mounted on the table of a coordinate-measuring instrument with the interposition of load cells. The relative position, initially still undefined, of the specimen with respect to the mounting plate can be determined by means of the co-ordinate-measuring instrument. The position of the centre of gravity can be calculated from the distribution of the position of the bearing feet relative to the specimen and from the respectively associated bearing forces. A series of expedient design configurations of the specimen mounting plate is specified.
