A pump unit consisting of a motor (13) and a pump driven by the latter with a common casing (11, 12) made of plastic, and used in particular as a waste water pump immersed in the medium to be transported, wherein a multi-layer construction is envisaged for the wall of the casing, with an external and internal layer (111, 121, 112, 122) which is particularly resistant to pressure and impact and with one or several intermediate layers (116, 126) providing the desired resistance to pressure and/or stability and capable if necessary of being reinforced by liners. In this way, the wall of the casing can be constructed so that on the inside the technical and constructional requirements are complied with, while on the outside it is possible to make allowance for practical and shape purposes.
