The invention relates to a barrel, in which the bottom (11) and the lid (19) are inserted inwards, such that, when the barrel is upright, the actual bottom (11) and the lid (19) are horizontal and a narrow, upright edge (12) adjoins them in each case, the front of said edge facing away from the barrel. Said narrow edge (12) bears against the outer surface (13) of the barrel from the inside and its end face is welded to the end face of the outer surface (13) of the barrel by a common weld. A reinforcing ring (14) bears against the narrow, upright edge (12) of the bottom (11) or lid (19) from the inside. The invention consists in the fact that said reinforcing ring (14) is welded in a common weld (15) to the end faces of the outer surface (13) of the barrel and of the narrow, upright edge (12) in such a way that the weld (15) bears against the upright outside of the reinforcing ring (14) and the reinforcing ring (14) also bears in a supporting manner either against the horizontal part of the bottom (11) or of the lid (19) or against the transitional rounding between the horizontal part of the bottom (11) or of the lid (19) and the upright edge (12). <IMAGE>
