An ashtray or similar built-in component for vehicles is described with an ashtray housing (1) which is to be arranged in a panelling element, for example a dashboard panel, console or the like in a countersunk fashion, and with an ashtray case (2) which is mounted therein and can be moved by the force of a spring (5) out of the closed position (out-of-use position) after a retaining element (6) is released into an open position (position of use).
