PURPOSE:To attain to enhance defoaming effect showing a foaming suppressing property and a foam rupturing property by lowering surface tension, by using a reaction product of an active hydrogen compound having 2-12 active hydrogen atoms and an epoxy compound as a useful component. CONSTITUTION:A reaction product of an active hydrogen compound containing 2-12 active hydrogen atoms given by a hydroxyl group, an amino group, an amido group, mercapto group or an carboxyl group and an epoxy compound represented by formula I (wherein A is 1-5C hydrocarbon containing a halogen atom or 3-24 hydrocarbon) and/or formula II (wherein B is 1-24C hydrocarbon) is used as a useful component. The mixing ratio of both compounds at the time of reaction is 1-50mol of the epoxy compound to 1mol of the active hydrogen compound. The obtained defoaming agent may be added to a foamable solution as it is or may be used in a solution form but the concn. thereof is set to about 0.001-0.1% on the basis of a foamed system.
