PURPOSE:To prolong the service life of a cutter by constituting the cutting contact surface of the cutting edge part of a milling cutter with a workpiece to be cut so as to vary in the effective cutting edge part, thus generating the nearly uniform abrasion over the whole length of the effective cutting edge part, in a cutting means using the milling cutter. CONSTITUTION:The cutting contact surface, with the side edge of a band plate 2, of the tip 1b of the milling cutter 1 of a cutting apparatus installed onto the both sides of a band-plate transfer line gradually shifts upward or downward. The switching between the normal and the reverse revolution of a motor 22 for pressing-down apparatus is carried-out by installing limit switches at the upper and the lower limit positions corresponding to the length of the effective cutting edge part of the tip 1b between a pressing-down screw 19 and a swing frame 12 and receiving ON or OFF signal of the limit switch. Since the cutting contact surface of the tip 1b momentaly varies in the effective cutting edge part, the total length of the effective cutting edge part contributes to cutting. Therefore, nearly uniform abrasion is generated over the whole length of the effective cutting edge part, and the service life of the cutter is prolonged. |
