PURPOSE:To obtain a multi-element thin film magnetic head which is improved in recording capacity, positioning accuracy and productivity by disposing a pair of nonmagnetic bodies, each of which is constituted by forming recessed grooves on both surfaces of a nonmagnetic body, embedding soft magnetic thin films therein and forming a soft magnetic film on one surface, via the gap materials interposed on both surfaces thereof and providing windings around the soft magnetic thin films. CONSTITUTION:The grooves 12a consisting of nonmagnetic thin films 15b for controlling track width and the grooves 12c for windings are provided atop a nonmagnetic substrate 8b. The grooves 12b consisting of nonmagnetic thin films 15c for controlling track width and the grooves 12d for winding are provided to the bottom surface thereof. The soft magnetic substrates 9b, 10a are laminated on both surfaces and are lapped, by which the 1st nonmagnetic substrate is obtd. On the other hand, the nonmagnetic thin films 15a, 15d are formed in the grooves for windings provided to the substrates 8a, 8c and are adhered to both surfaces of the 1st nonmagnetic substrate via the nonmagnetic plates as the gap material. The assembly is sliced off at the 13a, 13b planes, by which the multi-element thin film magnetic head is obtd. The recording capacity, positioning accuracy and productivity are thus improved. |
