PRODUCTION OF WEAKLY DEOXIDIZED STEEL IN CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To still the molten steel surface in a casting mold in an initial period of casting and to assure an operation for forming a defectless head by leaving a prescribed quantity of deoxidizing materials inserted to the point where the pouring flow of the molten steel falls into a tundish. CONSTITUTION:Aluminum bars 5 as the deoxidizing material are left inserted by a prescribed number of pieces to the falling point 4 of the molten steel corresponding to the point under the supply hole of a ladle in initial period of casting. The melt of the weakly deoxidized steel subjected to a deoxidation adjustment in the ladle is deoxidized by the bars 5 left inserted therein when said steel is poured to the back part 2 of a gate 1. The deoxidized steel is transferred through the gate 1 to a storage part 3 for the molten steel. The alumina formed by the deoxidation at the point 4 is floated and separated in a pouring part 2 for the molten steel. The clogging of the nozzle by the alumina in the stage of supplying the molten steel into the casting mold and the carryover of the alumina into the casting mold are thus prevented.
