A road barrier having a barrier element in the form of a heavy blocking rail (1) is described, which can be designed for example as a rectangular steel tube which is filled with concrete and has a mass of a few tonnes and a height of approximately 50 cm. The blocking rail (1) lies loosely on guiding supports (3) which can be adjusted jointly in terms of height and is able to slide away from the sliding support (3) in an unrestrained manner if hit by a vehicle and fall to the ground. In a lower position of the sliding supports (3), the blocking rail (1) lying on the latter closes a recess (10) traversing the roadway at the same level. Arranged in the blockable direction of travel behind the sliding supports (3) is a catching means (4) for the blocking rail (1) which has fallen down from the sliding supports (3). The catching means (4) preferably include posts situated at the roadside which are anchored at a distance from the recess (10) in the roadway which is greater than the diagonal dimension of the blocking rail (1). <IMAGE> |
