PURPOSE:To allow the operation of a heat pump even when the engine is not operable by connecting the engine and motor with a releasable first clutch, and connecting the motor and heat pump with a releasable second clutch. CONSTITUTION:A heat pump 2 to heat hot water, an engine to drive the heat pump 2, and a motor 11 to start the engine 3 are provided. The engine 3 and motor 11 are connected by a releasable first clutch 12, and the motor 11 and heat pump 2 are connected by a releasable second clutch 13. By this arrangement, the second clutch is disengaged and the first clutch 12 is engaged to start up the engine 3 by the motor 11. If the engine 3 fails or is not operable due to running out of fuel, the heat pump 2 can be operated by the motor 11 by disengaging the first clutch 12 and engaging the second clutch 13. |
