PURPOSE:To optimize the heat storage level for a thermal head by a method wherein heat generating energy is arranged in several patterns with heat generating elements thereof and the heat storage level therein is detected to select optimum heat generating energy based on the results. CONSTITUTION:A heat storage corrector includes a heat storage level computing means 34 which determines the heat storage level of the unit heat generating element 32 of a thermal head 31 by planar arrangement of picture signals 33 and an applied energy setting means 35 which selects multiple applied energies sequentially to obtain an applied energy closer to the ideal value of mount of heat energy to be generated by each unit heat generating element 32 for printing when a discrepancy is found between the ideal value and the amount of heat energy actually applied to the unit heat generating element 32 based on the results of computation from the heat storage level computing means 34. When the same heat storage state continues, more than one applied energies are set sequentially to eliminate errors in the correction of heat storage. |
