PURPOSE:To decrease the racing frequency of a seamed dielectric belt and to prolong the lifetime of the belt by adding a home position counter to control the drive of the belt with an electrostatic memory system using said dielectric belt. CONSTITUTION:A belt 2 contains a home position 13 which is detected by a sensor, and a home counter has the prescribed value set in a job start mode and undergoes subtraction for each detection of the position 13. When the position 13 is detected by a discriminating circuit 23 for input of home position sensor, 1 is subtracted from the value of the home counter. A discriminating circuit 24 for home position counter discriminates through the circuit 24 whether the contents of the counter are equal to ''0'' or not. The drive of the belt 2 is continued when the contents of the counter are not equal to ''0''. Then the drive of the belt 2 is stopped in case the contents of the counter are equal to ''0'' and the data is not received yet. The belt 2 is driven again immediately before a writing action.
