PURPOSE:To make a tape speed at reproduction equal to that at recording, by recording a tape speed signal in the edge section of an inclined track in which information signals are recorded, reproducing and discriminating the tape speed signal at information reproduction, then, switching the tape speed. CONSTITUTION:At recording, a capstan motor 3 is rotated by selecting a tape speed by means of a recording speed change-over switch (S)1 and switching a capstan controlling circuit 2. The S1 is connected to a frequency change-over S5 and frequency signals f1 and f2 from a frequency generating circuit 4 are selected as tape speed signals. The selected output is supplied to an adder 14 through a gate circuit 7 and superposed with information signals from an input terminal 8 by means of a gate signal from a timing generating circuit 6. The tape speed signals are recorded in a prescribed area of the edge section of an inclined track by a recording head 10. At the time of reproduction, the tape speed signals are extracted through a gate circuit 12 and discriminated by a speed discriminating circuit 13, and thus, the motor 3 is controlled. Therefore, the tape speed at the time of reproduction can be made equal to that at recording.
