PURPOSE:To obtain easily a synthetic resin lens material freed from monomer bleeding and having a high refractive index and a high Abbe's number, by polymerizing a halogen-substituted phenyl (meth)acrylate in two steps. CONSTITUTION:5-30pts.wt. polymer containing at least 60wt% units corresponding to the formula (wherein R is H or methyl, X is Br or I, and m is the number of substituents X and is 3-5), e.g., 2,4,6-tribromophenyl methacrylate or 2,4,6- triiodophenyl acrylate is dissolved in 95-70pts.wt. monomer component containing at least 40wt% monomer of the formula and being liquid at a temperature <=60 deg.C. The obtained solution is cast-polymerized to obtain the purpose synthetic resin lens material having a refractive index (at 20 deg.C) >=1.58 and an Abbes's number >=28.
