Method for working a deposit with an essentially horizontally running storage layer, in which, through an injection borehole (1) in the lower part of the storage layer, an unheated gas is pressed in with controllable flow quantity, which gas is kept at a pressure which lies slightly above the fracturation pressure for this layer (1) so that a horizontally running fracture (12) is formed which extends at least as far as the producing boreholes (5).
