In order to facilitate handling and to provide an improved design which is reinforced against pressure, a device for pressing sealing compound or the like, in particular joint sealing compounds, is provided, which device has a receptacle space for a replaceable cartridge and a plunger 10 which presses a pressing piston into the interior of the cartridge and is driven forward by force, the plunger 10 having the helical spindle-shaped, profiled cylinder outer casing surface 17 and the power-output side transmission element of the step-down gear 11 which is constructed as a drive gearwheel 13 being arranged on the same axis on the plunger and the diameter of its inner opening 41 through which the plunger 10 can be moved longitudinally is equal to or greater than the outer diameter of the cylinder outer casing surface 17 of the plunger 10, which surface 17 is profiled in a helical spindle-shape, the plunger 10 having a longitudinal groove 47 which extends along its surface at least over the extent of its working stroke and a positively locking element (for example projection 46) which connects with the drive gearwheel 13 which engages in the longitudinal groove 47 and can be moved along the latter being provided, and the plunger 10 being supported with its cylinder outer casing surface 17 which is profiled in a helical spindle-shape being supported against a counter bearing 45 which is fixed axially in the housing 24, is secured against rotation and has in its inside 52 a thread which engages in the helical spindle-shaped profile of the plunger 10. <IMAGE>
