An optical transmitting and/or optical receiving device for an optical transmission system is designed in such a way that an optical transmitter and/or optical receiver is attached to the underside of a semiconductor chip which has an adaptation logic circuit which is electrically connected to the optical transmitter and/or optical receiver, and moreover a further semiconductor chip is mechanically connected to the upper side of the semiconductor chip and has one or more circuits which are electrically connected to the optical transmitter, the optical receiver and/or the adaptation logic circuit. The semiconductor chip attached to the upper side is used for electrical adaptation of the optical transmitting and/or optical receiving device or for the connection of a further optical transmitter or optical receiver in conjunction with an optical fibre. The optical transmitting and/or optical receiving device is intended to be used in particular in an optical bus system whose light-conducting medium is designed as a glass plate which is metal-coated on both sides.
