The invention relates to an apparatus for securing cylindrical bodies, in particular short optical waveguides, the end surfaces of which are to be coated with optically effective layers. The apparatus preferably contains v-shaped depressions into which the bodies can be individually introduced in a self-adjusting manner. Each body is mechanically retained by a spring element. By means of an apparatus of this type, the necessary coating and subsequent further processing of the bodies can be largely automated.
