Method and appliance for quantitative analysis of at least one constituent of a chemical compound, by means of which, in particular, a cement mix can be monitored, by means of photometry, automatically and continuously with respect to its constituents. A program-control appliance, which stores the preset values and compares them to the measured values and controls the proportioning and measuring appliances, is used to slurry a first weight fraction of a cement sample in alcohol and to measure the density of the suspension photometrically. A second sample portion of the same cement sample is then dissolved in a solvent which decomposes the clinker and the gypsum, but not the slag. A second optical measurement is then carried out transversely through the suspension, and the two measured values are compared to one another, so that the proportion of undissolved slag can be determined.
