To cancel non-linear amplitude and/or phase distortions in RF-side transmission devices of transmission systems for analog or digital transmission signals, in particular non-linear distortions in microwave transmitters, at least one identification circuit (16, 17) is used in the transmission system which transmits a pulse-code- modulated identification signal which represents in coded form a linear or non-linear function of the sampled and quantised envelope quantity of the transmission signal passing through the RF-side transmission devices. Furthermore, at least one digital converter (18) is used which converts the pulse-code-modulated identification signal into a pulse-code-modulated correction signal, a code word of the pulse-code-modulated correction signal which can be predefined according to the non-linear transmission characteristics of the RF-side transmission devices being allocated to each code word of the pulse-code-modulated identification signal. In addition, at least one correction circuit (19, 14) is used in which the transmission signal is modulated as a linear or non-linear function of the decoded pulse- code-modulated correction signal. The digital converter (18) can be programmed according to the non-linear transmission characteristics of the RF-side transmission devices either once or adaptively by means of a computer controlled by a measurement receiver. <IMAGE>
