A manually operated device for cutting trees or similar tree-care work is characterised by a relatively long boom rod, on the lower end of which a drive aggregate is arranged and the upper end of which has a cutting element operationally connected to the drive aggregate. The cutting element has a cutting head, on which a cutting tool is guided, e.g. a saw blade carrying out oscillating cutting movements. The boom rod can be composed of interconnectable rod sections. Any motors, e.g. electric motors, internal combustion engines etc. can be used as drive aggregate.
