PURPOSE:To print thickly longitudinal segments by obtaining a shift number (n), by which printing of a plotter should be shifted in the transverse direction, in accordance with a preliminarily inputted enlargement rate and transferring data, which shifts segments of longitudinal components in the transverse direction, to the plotter n-number of times. CONSTITUTION:When a character to be printed is inputted to a CPU2, a memory 1 is accessed to read out segment data of one stroke of the input character. If it is detected by a Y component detecting means 3 that this data includes a longitudinal component, the shift number (n) indicating a step number by which a plotter 6 should be moved is obtained by a shift number setting means 4, which has thickness indications of segments including Y components inputted preliminarily from the external, and is set to a counter 5. Segment data is sent to the plotter 6 as print data, and a transmission number is sent to a counter 5. The shift number (n) of the counter 5 and the transmission number are compared with each other by the CPU2, and a signal which moves a pen of the plotter 6 for the extent corresponding to a step size is outputted continuously until they coincide with each other.
