An installation is presented for setting down masonry blocks, in particular for setting down layers of large-format masonry blocks, by means of a conventional building-site crane. In order to avoid delays in the setting down operation which result from oscillations in the jib or tower of the building-site crane, it is provided that a device for setting down the masonry block or blocks slowly comprises a tensioning member, such as, for example, a spindle, a rack or a sprocket chain, which is mechanically driven by an adjustable electric motor by means of a downstream reduction gear and of a pinion. It is also provided that said device is directly connected to the load-bearing member for the gripping jaws of the block gripper.
