A method of joining tubing sections, which may be of dissimilar metals, is disclosed. Firstly, a tube insert (14) is inserted into an end of a first tube section (34) to be joined to a second tube section (34). A connector nut (16, see also figure 4) is then placed onto the first tube end and slid up the tube (34) a short distance. A locking preparation fluid, such as glue, is then applied on a portion of the first tube end. The first tube end is then placed into a connector body of a tubing connector (12, see also figure 1). The tubing connector (12) is made of steel and has a generally cylindrical tubular connector body with a first end (18) and a second end. Each end is provided with at least one tool gripping ridge (22) which encircle the centre region of the connector body. The connector body further has an interior surface and an exterior surface, with a first ridge on said interior surface in the first end, and a second ridge on the interior surface in the second end. The connector body is covered inside and out with a dielectric material, which enables the connector to join sections of dissimilar metal tubing. The first tube section (34), tubing connector (12), tube insert (14) and connector nut (16) are placed into a two piece press (see 56, figure 15). The press includes a first jaw (see 64, figure 15) for engagement with an end of the connector nut (16), and a second jaw (see 66, figure 15) for engagement with one of the tool grip ridges (22). A foot press is then used for developing hydraulic pressure and pressing the two jaws (64, 66) of the press (56) together to force the connector nut (16) over a connector flange (38) of the connector (12) to sandwich the end of the first tube section (34) between the tube insert (14) and the inside of the connector body. These steps are repeated on the end of the second tube section (34) to join the two tubes at the connector. |
