PURPOSE:To increase the Ti content of a low-grade Ti ore such as ilmenite by charging the Ti ore and low-Si molten iron into a converter, reducing selectively Fe2O3 in the ore, and removing it. CONSTITUTION:A low-grade Ti ore such as ilmenite is added to moten iron desiliconized by pretreatment to reduce selectively Fe2O3 in the ilmenite. After discharging only the molten metal, the remaining molten slag is poured into other vessel to obtain a starting material contg. Ti. By this method the Ti content of the ilmenite is increased because iron in the ilmenite is removed.
