A switching-error protection apparatus is shown and described for switching installations having a plurality of switching apparatuses, having one simulation drive (1) per switching apparatus and having a plurality of switching elements which can be operated by the simulation drive (1). The switching-error protection apparatus according to the invention is of simple construction and has high reliability, using modern circuit techniques, to be precise in that two electrical and one optical functional region are provided, in that the first electrical functional region operates at normal control voltages of 60 V, 110 V, 220 V, 250 V or the like, and the control signals for the switching apparatuses can be processed there, in that the second electrical functional region operates at control voltages of 5 to 24 V and internal electronic control signals can be processed there, and in that the transmission and reception of signals which are to be transmitted, signal coding and position simulation take place in the optical functional region. Opto-electronic light transmitters (4) and light receivers (5) are preferably provided in the optical functional region, and the electronic side of the opto-electronic light transmitters (4) and light receivers (5) is located in the second electrical functional region. <IMAGE>
