A signal transmitter for converting a pressure deformation into an electrical signal, particularly in the form of a strip, mat or the like, for example for counting purposes, triggering motion processes, alarm states, safety matters and the like, comprising a device casing which is constructed to be - especially elastically - deformable and/or resilient in the pressure direction in a section to be exposed to the pressure load and has at least one signal element changing its spatial shape under a pressure load, which can be connected to a feed and signal evaluation device and which is designed, for a construction which can be inexpensively produced, is maintenance free and operates reliably and is independent of environmental influences and can be easily compensated for fluctuations, for example in the temperature, in such a manner that the signal element comprises a pair of electrical conductors - also in the form of conductor groups, which extend approximately parallel with at least one part area of the section to be deformed and are held spaced apart contactlessly in each position of deformation of the section.
