PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of measuring work, by exciting two optical fibers in the vicinity of the connection point thereof to emit lights and respectively measuring the intensities of lights transmitting through optical fibers in the other side while calculating the connection loss from both measured results. CONSTITUTION:In the vicinity of the connection part 3 of upper and lower side optical fibers 1, 2, a Ge-atom is excited at first by irradiating the bare fiber 1a of an optical fiber 1 with ultraviolet or infrared rays 5 from a projector 4 to emit light and the light propagated to the fiber 2 is received by the light receiver 6 arranged to the bent part 2b of the fiber 2 to measure the intensity of leaked light. Next, the rays 5 are allowed to irradiate the bare fiber 2a of the other fiber 2 to similarly measure the intensity of the leaked light by the light receiver 6 and the connection loss is calculated from the ratio of both measured values. By this method, measurement becomes possible only on the connection work site. |
