A process for the production of thiuram polysulfides substituted by aliphatic, araliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radicals by reaction of a correspondingly substituted secondary amine with carbon disulfide and sulfur in a solvent and in the presence of an oxidizing agent, characterized in that the reaction is carried out with a secondary amine having a pKa-value of >= 8 at temperatures of from 0 to 150¬ C in the presence of oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas as oxidizing agent and a metal-containing catalyst.
