PURPOSE:To obtain a test piece which can detect the bilirubin in a sample, more particularly in urine and blood without receiving the influence of the reducing material in the sample by depositing an effective amt. of an oxidizing agent such as oxyacid or the salt thereof together with a diazo compd. on a base material such as filter paper. CONSTITUTION:A reagent consisting of the diazo compd. selected from p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid, 2,6-dichlorobenzene diazonium tetrafluoroborate and 2- trifluoromethylbenzene diazonium tetrafluoroboric acid is deposited on the filter paper, non-woven fabric or the like formed by impregnating the oxyacid such as MIXO, MIXO3, MIXO4 and M3IH2XO6 (MI is univalent cation of Na, etc. and H, X are halogen) or the salt thereof in the amt. enough to oxidize the reducing material in the sample and a metallic salt such as iron (II) ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, FeCl3, CuSO4, copper acetate or lead acetate in the substantial amt. as an oxidizing agent into said filter paper or the like and drying the same, by which the test piece is manufactured. Such test piece is immersed into the sample such as blood or urine and the bilirubin in the sample is exactly detected without being affected by the reducing agent such as ascorbic acid in the sample.
