PURPOSE:To automatically exchange a pawl in a chuck at the tip of a shaft, by utilizing an ordinary tool exchanging device without using a magazine or exchanging device exclusively for pawls. CONSTITUTION:A pawl in a chuck 2 is positioned at a predetermined angular position for exchanging pawls. A turret tool rest 14 is moved so as to insert the pawl in the chuck 2 into an empty pawl holder 23'. A cylinder piston device 6 is then actuated such that the pawl in the chuck 2 is removed. When the tool rest 14 is moved in the rectangular direction, the pawl is pressed by a spring within the pawl holder 23' and is removed from the chuck. Another pawl received in a pawl holder 23 is transferred to the chuck 2 according to the contrary procedures to those descrived above. |
