PURPOSE:A fluorescent material providing a radiation-image conversion panel having high picture quality and sensitivity and improved accelerated phosphorescent characteristics, and composed of a specific Eu<++>-doped barium fluoride halide fluorescent material. CONSTITUTION:The objective Eu<++>-doped barium fluoride halide fluorescent material has the composition of formula (MII is Ca or Sr; X and X' are Cl, Br or I; a, b, c and X are 0<a<=5X10<-2>; 0<b<=10<-1>; 0<c<=2.0; 0<X<=0.2). The fluorescent material can be prepared e.g. by pulverizing dried mixture of the raw materials, filling the obtained fine powder in a refractory vessel such as a quartz boat, and calcining in an electrical furnace in a weakly reducing atmosphere at 500-1,300 deg.C usually for 0.5-6hr.
