TITLE FAST INPUT/OUTPUT TECHNIQUE USING STARK SHIFTING FOR A FREQUENCY SELECTIVE OPTICAL MEMORY INVENTOR Alexander Szabo In a frequency selective optical memory, the storage material is responsive to an optical beam for effecting the production or detection of frequency holes in the material. The beam may be spatially scanned across the material to create a matrix of holes representing stored information. Using a storage material which is responsive to an electric field for frequency shifting the holes in the material, holes at different frequencies are created or detected in a material by a beam of frequency f by scanning the magnitude of the electric field thereby shifting the holes created away from the frequency f or shifting the holes to be detected through the frequency f. This electric field may be applied by a controlled voltage source connected to transparent conductive electrodes on the surfaces of the storage material.
|
