PURPOSE:An ultraviolet absorber for resin, containing a propane derivative having dibenzophenone as a substituent group, having high thermal stability and free from dissipation, decomposition and sublimation, and resistant to bleeding even at a high concentration in the resin. CONSTITUTION:The objective ultraviolet absorber contains the propane derivative of formula as an active component. The amount of the derivative to be added to a resin such as polyester, polycarbonate, etc. is 0.1-5(wt)% (preferably 0.3-4%). The derivative can be synthesized by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of bisphenol A with benzoyl chloride in an inert solvent such as nitrobenzene, in the presence of a catalyst such as anhydrous aluminum chloride, etc.
