PURPOSE:To obtain efficiently the titled crystals useful as a dietary sweetener, etc., by reducing a saccharide solution containing an oligosaccharide, e.g. maltotetraose, as a main component to prepare a saccharide solution in an alcohol, concentrating the resultant solution, and preserving the concentrated solution at a low temperature to deposit the aimed crystals. CONSTITUTION:A saccharide solution containing one or more oligosaccharides containing maltotetraose, maltopentaose, maltohexaose, maltoheptaose and maltooctaose as a main component is reduced to prepare a saccharide solution in an alcohol, which is then concentrated and preserved at a low temperature to deposit crystals, which are then collected to give the aimed crystals having the following melting points and specific rotatory powers; [alpha]D<20>; +160-+163 at 225-230 deg.C for maltotetraitol, +165-+168 at 275-280 deg.C for maltopentaitol, +169-+172 at 275-280 deg.C for maltohexaitol, +185-+188 at 275-280 deg.C for maltoheptaitol and +191-+192 at 275-280 deg.C for maltooctaitol and prismatic and needlelike crystals.
