PURPOSE:To reduce the crushing of a head and errors during the reproduction of a signal by oxidizing the surface of a pure Al film formed on an Al alloy substrate to form an alumite film almost free from projections and pinholes and by forming a magnetic film on the alumite film. CONSTITUTION:A pure Al film 5 of a prescribed thickness is formed on an Al alloy substrate 1 by vapor deposition or other method, and the surface of the film 5 is oxidized by anodic oxidation or other method to form an alumite film 3a of about 2-4mum thickness. At this time, only the surface part of the film 5 is oxidized. The surface of the alumite film 3a is finished by polishing or other method so as to attain 0.02mum Rmax plane accuracy, and a magnetic film 4 is formed on the film 3a as usual to obtain a magnetic disk.
