PURPOSE:An intermediate for composite materials, excellent in mechanical properties such as rigidity and suitable for use in aircraft, prepared by impregnating a reinforcement with a resin composition comprising a specified additive for epoxy resins, an epoxy resin and a curing agent. CONSTITUTION:An additive for epoxy resins of formula III (wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each H, a 1-17C aliphatic group, alicyclic group, aromatic group, heterocyclic group, or the like, and X is oxygen, sulfur, or the like) is prepared by reacting a compound of formula I (e.g., N-methylformamide) with a compound of formula II (e.g., propylene oxide). This additive is mixed with an epoxy resin, a curing agent (e.g., m-phenylenediamine) and, optionally, a cure accelerator (e.g., 2-methylimidazole). A reinforcement (e.g., glass fiber or carbon fiber) is impregnated with the obtained resin composition to form the purpose intermediate for composite materials.
