PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an agent for modifying a polyester, etc., in high rate of production and high yield, by adding an aqueous solution of allyl chloride and an alkali metal hydroxide dropwise to trimethylolpropane specifying the total amount of water to be added to the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:An allyl-etherified trimethylolpropane is produced by adding an aqueous solution of allyl chloride and an alkali metal hydroxide to a raw material containing trimethylolpropane, an alkali metal hydroxide and water at a molar ratio of 1:(0-1):(0-9). In the above process, the total amount of water to be added to the reaction system is adjusted to 1-10mol per 1mol of trimethylolpropane. The deterioration of the stirring state caused by the precipitation of solid material can be prevented and the hydrolysis of allyl chloride can be suppressed thereby. The objective compound, especially trimethylolpropane diallyl ether useful also as an intermediate of synthetic resins can be produced by a simplified process in high yield.
