The invention relates to a peripheral sealing device for use with an in the main cylindrical, rotatable reaction vessel 1 for liquid metal and a mantle 14, which is arranged to collect hot gases from the reaction vessel 1. The sealing device comprises a cable 62 and a cable housing 37. The cable housing 37 is connected to, and runs along, a peripheral edge or area of the mantle 14. The cable 62 itself runs at least partially outside the cable housing 37. In one embodiment, the cable 62 bears, in a closely pressing manner, against the reaction vessel 1. In another embodiment, a housing 72 surrounds a lower part of the cable 62 and the cable 62 pulls the housing 72 so that it presses closely against the reaction vessel 1.
