1,2-Diazin-3(2H)one derivs. of formula (I), in which R1 is H, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, R2 is aryl or heteroaryl, and R3 is hydrogen or halogen, are made by (a) reacting a 1,2-diazin-3(2H)one with a 4-aroyl piperazine in an aromatic nucleophilic substn. reaction, to give a cpd. of formula (II); (b) treating (II) with an alcohol to obtain a cpd. of formula (III); and (c) treating (III) with a diluted organic or mineral acid.
