PURPOSE:To prevent the knocking in the layered combustion in high load and low revolution state by installing a swirl varying apparatus for controlling the magnitude of swirl into a suction passage in which a fuel injection valve is arranged and controlling the swirl varying apparatus according to the engine load and the revolution speed. CONSTITUTION:In the throttle-valve downstream side part in a suction passage 5, a fuel injection valve 12 is arranged towards a suction valve 3. In the suction passage 5, the downstream side part which communicates to a combustion chamber 2 is divided into the primary and the secondary-side suction passages 5a and 5b by a partitioning wall 18. The primary-side suction passage 5a is formed to have a relatively small passage area and opened as a port 11a for swirl at the suction 11 on a little upstream side from the suction valve 3. While, the secondary-side suction passage 5b is formed not to provide the inhaled air with swirl, and a swirl control valve 19 is installed which operates in the direction for weakening the swirl in high load and high revolution state and operates in the direction for strengthening the swirl in high load and low revolution state. |
