PURPOSE:To enable the reduction of the titled coupler by adopting a mixer of the size at which the large distribusion deviation possessed by an ordinary equipment is adequately determined by the diameter and number of input and output fibers, the refractive index of the mixer and the wavelength of signal light. CONSTITUTION:The envelope thereof is well approximated by the following equation for the signal light having <0.05 spectral purity DELTAlambda/lambda0 in the case of >=0.05mum core diameter 25 and >=25mm. L mixer length 24: f(x)=sinx/x, X=lambda0L/ nD and if the space at which the distribution deviation is negligible is designed to be DELTAWi, DELTAW1=lambda0L/nD, DELTAW2=0.81lambda0L/nD. n Is the refractive index of the core of the mixer and lambda0 is the wavelength of the signal light. The axis of abscissa is the space standardized by the distance of the above-mentioned equation and the parameter of the polygonal line is the mixer length 24 standardized by the distance of the equation: Lu=K.D KN/(1-lambda0K/nD). The standardized space 22 at which the distribution deviation by an interference effect is minimized and the standardized mixer length are unequivocally determined. K is the ratio between the core diameter 25 and the clad diameter 26 and N is the number of optical fibers.
