Process and apparatus for spinning inorganic fibres

Inorganic material is melted in a smelting (melting) furnace (1) and is allowed to flow downwards through a die opening (3), fitted in the bottom of the furnace (oven), in filament form. The consolidated fibrous part of the material is passed into the upper opening (5) of a thread guide tube (4) disposed vertically below the die opening and then into an accelerator tube (14) disposed coaxially underneath the thread guide tube. In the region between the thread guide tube and the accelerator tube there is disposed around the latter a compressed air chamber (10) from which compressed air is blown through a ring-shaped, converging slot (11) into the upper opening of the accelerator tube connected to the compressed air chamber. The ejector effect of the air stream formed in the accelerator tube and the vacuum created in the thread guide tube serves to draw (orient, stretch) the filament without take-off means and pass it through the tube combination. The process and apparatus make it possible to spin longer inorganic filaments at higher productivity. <IMAGE>
