PURPOSE:To enable the miniaturization of the entire unit by carrying a printing mechanism and a reading mechanism for bar codes on the same conveying mechanism while paper support mechanisms are provided independently for supporting a printing paper and a reading paper. CONSTITUTION:As a printing paper is inserted into a printing paper insertion port 2 along a guide on a table 3 for the printing bar codes, with the rotation of a feed roller 13, it is introduced to a platen 10 to abut a stopper 14 and bar codes are printed sequentially with a printhead 9 of a printing mechanism 7. As a reading paper 15 is inserted into a reading paper insertion port 16 to read bar codes being printed, it abuts and stops against a paper stopper 18 at the lower end of a support plate 17. With the driving of a solenoid 21, a paper holding plate 17 presses the paper 15 on the support plate 24 to read bar codes with a reading head 12.
