PURPOSE:To prepare a polyester, polyesteramide and polyamide easily at a low cost, by carrying out polymerization in the presence of an imidazole compound and halogenated organic sulfonyl compound as a condensing agent. CONSTITUTION:Two or more components of a dicarboxylic acid expressed by formula I, diol expressed by formula II, hydroxy carboxylic acid expressed by formula III, diamine expressed by formula IV, aminocarboxylic acid expressed by formula V and hydroxyamine expressed by formula VI (R<1>-R<4>, R<7> and R<9> are bivalent aromatic group; xylylene, bivalent aliphatic group, etc.; R<5>, R<6>, R<8> and R<10> are H, aliphatic group or aromatic group) are combined to carry out polymerization or the component expressed by formula III or V is alone polymerized. In the process, the polymerization is carried out in the presence of an imidazole compound using a halogenated organic sulfonyl compound as a condensing agent. An N-substituted imidazole is used as the imidazole compound.
