The device has an expansion vessel (6) which is provided with a throttling point in the form of a spring-loaded pressure-reducing valve (2) at the inlet for the hot water. The throttling point (2) has a variable throttling cross-section (5), in which a partial pressure reduction, which is to a great extent independent of the respective throughput of hot water, of the hot water flowing through takes place. The expansion vessel (6) is dimensioned in such a manner that a water column (hs min) can form in it above the throttling member (2), in which column the remaining pressure reduction takes place as a result of changing the static height. As a result, destruction of the throttling member by cavitation and erosion is avoided. <IMAGE>
