PURPOSE:To monitor performance of a main battery by removably assembling small batteries each of which consists of plates having same material and same physical property as those of a reserve type battery and taking out a unit cell from the small batteries when the battery is checked, and measuring its performance. CONSTITUTION:A reserve type battery 1 comprising cathode active material such as silver chloride or copper chloride and anode active material such as magnesium or aluminium, and using electrolyte such as plain water or sea water is formed. Small batteries 2 comprsing a plurality of unit cells 2a each of which consists of plates having same material and same physical property as cathode plate and anode plate of the main battery 1 and which is removable from the main battery 1 are assembled within or near the main battery 1. When the battery 1 is checked during storage, the unit cell 2a is taken out from the small batteries 2 and its performance is measured. By measuring performance of the unit cell 2a, performance of the main battery 1 can be estimated. Therefore, defective battery can be found and maintenance of the battery becomes easy. |
