PURPOSE:A specific solid part of adhesive, an organic solvent and water are mixed under stirring, a part of the solvent is recovered by applying reduced pressure, the amount of water is adjusted to effect phase reversal into emulsion whereby the titled tackifier for adhesive tapes is obtained, which has good creep properties and a reduced amount of filtration residue. CONSTITUTION:(A) The solid part of the tackifier, which is prepared by adding (i) 40-150pts.wt. of a tackifier such as petroleum resin and (ii) 2-20pts.wt. of an emulsifier such as nonionic emulsifier to (iii) 100pts.wt. of a rubber elastomer such as natural rubber, (B) an organic solvent such as toluene and (C) water or an alkaline aqueous solution, preferably aqueous ammonia, are mixed under stirring, then a part of component B is recovered under reduced pressure or with heat under stirring to adjust the volume to 0-20pts.wt. based on component A. Then, the amount of component C is adjusted to 60-130pts.wt. to effect phase- reversal emulsification into the objective composition. The weight ratio of components A:B:C is preferably 100:(100-800):(50-80).
