The track device (1) is attached to a traction vehicle (2). A cutter (10) serving to loosen the snow is situated directly in the wedge space (25) in front of an upwardly curved track plate (26). As a result, an accumulation space is produced, in which the snow collects, which after this is compacted by the two track wedges (28). The track plate (26), together with the track wedges (28) connected rigidly to it, is fastened pivotably by a universal joint (24) on an arm (3, 22) projecting from the traction vehicle (2). The cutter (10) is mounted in side walls (12) which are pivotable about a pivot bearing (14) with horizontal axis. By means of this design, the penetration of the track wedges (28) into the snow is made easier and a well compacted cross-country track is produced.
